Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Who are you and why are you doing this?
I am a physics teacher and a national guardsman. I had the opportunity to go on leave for two weeks in France during my yearlong deployment to Afghanistan. While there, I was approached by a lot of homeless people asking for money. That made me sad, and I wondered about the homeless people back in the States. I wanted to just take someone in, but I thought it would be awkward to ask a homeless person to answer a whole bunch of background questions. So I thought of who else might need a home and decided to create a “scholarship” for working students.
Do I really want to live in your house?
It's a pretty nice place. You're more than welcome to come over and take a look if you want. You'll have free utilities as well as access to a washer/dryer, free cable modem/wi-fi connection, and free cereal for breakfast if that suits you. There are two full baths and two half baths, a small yard, and relatively quiet neighbours. Plus, if you ever need any help with your math or physics homework, you'll have a free tutor.
What happened to your last roommate?
Good question. I've had a few other roommates, but the reason that I have an open room is that one roommate graduated and the other moved to Florida.
Will you help me move?
Yes.
What happens if I don't like living in your house?
You can leave at any time. No deposits or obligations are required.
What if I want to stay longer?
After the first semester is complete, it's $250/month for as long as you want to stay.
If I don't win the scholarship, can I still sleep on your sofa?
Hmm...okay.
